Man of Steel – Film Review

It’s been a little while since I’ve done a film review, but that’s mainly down to not having a chance to go to the cinema much! However, I finally made the trip to go see Man of Steel, aka the new Superman movie.

Now before I start I should say this, I’m not a huge Superman fan, in fact he’s probably one of my least liked comic book heroes. So, you are probably wondering why on earth I wanted to see this film in the first place, well to put it simply, there were two reasons.

1. The trailer looked pretty epic
2. Superman himself reminded me of Lois & Clark The New Adventures of Superman the TV Series, which is the only Superman thing I can say I have truly loved.

I’ve never really read any Superman comics, so I’m not the person to ask if it reflects the comics well or not, though I am told that Man of Steel did make the hard-core fans happy (as far as I am aware).

Time for my thoughts, I really enjoyed the film in fact I was surprised at how much I did in fact enjoy it, I really loved the flash backs and the film really told a story. It felt like I was watching Superman for the first time as it flowed through how he came to be, which I personally enjoyed most during the film. For me there wasn’t any of those dull moments which often appear in long films that hit the 2hr mark, however I found myself entertained the entire time which is a sign of a good film.

The main dislike for me was the action, there just seemed to be a lot of it and not as well choreographed, for me there wasn’t any stand out moments during the fight scenes that I wanted to talk about after. While after Iron Man 3 there were several stand out moments in the fight scenes which I happily chatted about excitedly to friends, I certainly had none of those epic fight scene moments after Man of Steel.

The best part of the film for me had to be Henry Cavill, who played Clark Kent/Kal-El aka Superman, to me he looked every inch as Superman should be, he had the strong facial features which for me is vital in being a great Superman. His acting was surperb and I really look forward to seeing him in future films as I’m sure he’ll get a lot more calls now after this particular role.

I’ve added in the trailer for anyone who hasn’t seen the film yet, all I can say is if this doesn’t convince you to see the film I have no idea what will as it’s definitely one of the best trailers I’ve seen for a while!

So, overall I would have to give this film a 7 out of 10, it would have been a little higher if there were more stand out action scenes. If you love Superman or enjoy action films you’ll most likely enjoy this film, I know this as my boyfriend who typically doesn’t enjoy many superhero films really enjoyed this particular film so even if your not that into superhero movies this might be one of the few you’ll like!
Have you seen Man of Steel? What were your thoughts?
Another film review will be up soon, the next review will be on This is the End, a film I’m really looking forward to seeing and with the cast it looks like it’ll be great.

  1. i loved this film- i am a total comic nerd though! I agree with what you said about stand out action- I didn't feel that it was punchy enough! but Bravo for him being topless in a couple of scenes.

    1. aha yeh can't go wrong with a bit of topless Henry Cavill! I'm a comic nerd too but never been able to get into Superman much, maybe this will change that!
