Health Kick Series - Part One

I've made similar posts in the past but in general I've never really been happy with them and as I've been slowly changing my lifestyle over the past month or so I feel in a much better position to begin this series and share my journey with you all!

So to start off back in August I weighed around 10 stone 7 lbs, and I stand at 5"9 so pretty much in the middle of the BMI chart and a healthy weight, however I've never been happy and due to some personal circumstances and a little bit of illness I dropped down to 10 stone pretty fast. Since then I have been trying my best to eat better and exercise more. In fact I've realised that small changes make a better difference as they are easier to carry on and implement into your daily routine, so what changes have I made?

My biggest change is taking the stairs everywhere and anywhere I possibly can, no more standing on the escalators or taking the lift because 'I can't be bothered', it was actually a spur of the moment change where one day I decided to take the stairs instead of the escalator at Bank station one morning and I'm still doing it two weeks on, not a massive change but it makes a difference! My legs are definitely seeing the results and with using a cross trainer whenever I can fit in the time hopefully I'll start seeing even more results soon.

I also treated myself to a FitBit Flex, which tracks my steps and honestly I have become obsessed with it, but I'll do a more in-depth post about that later in this series. I use the app to track my steps during the day and I also track my sleep, as I have a lot of problems with sleeping and I'm hoping it will help me see a pattern on the days I particularly struggle most. I also use MyFitnessPal to track my calorie intake and any extra calories I burn with extra exercise, I like that they sync up as it makes my life easier and ensures an easy way to keep it all up to date! Let me know if you want to see a post about MyFitnessPal too.

Something else that the past week I'm beginning to get back into is cooking! It's amazing how much of a difference it can make and it has definitely simply improved my mood already as cooking meals from scratch allows me to know exactly what I'm putting into my body and how many calories it contains. Here's my dinner from last night:

I made a tomato and basil pasta, lots of carrots and onion and plenty of rocket thrown on top to finish. I'm finding myself eating more and more vegetarian based dinners as they fill me up just as much (maybe more) and I don't have many cravings for eating meat these days! I'll definitely start sharing some recipes with you all once I fine tune them as I always enjoy seeing other peoples recipes online so hopefully you'll enjoy some of mine too!

That's all for now, but watch out for part two which will be coming very soon, most probably a review about the FitBit Flex!
